Are nodal metastases in ovarian cancer chemoresistant lesions? Analysis of nodal involvement in 105 patients treated with preoperative chemotherapy 169

D. Castaigne - Villejuif, FRANCE
The rates of nodal involvement seem to be similar in patients treated before or after chemotherapy. Such results suggest that nodal metastases are chemoresistant lesions.

It is feasible to detect the sentinel lymph node under local anaesthesia in an unselected population. Using this procedure, patients can undergo surgery with the knowledge of their axillary lymph node status while at the same time avoiding the uncer-tainties of an intraoperative examination of the sentinel lymph node - a source of many false negatives, particularly in the event of micrometastases.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship, if any, among adenomyosis, endometrial adenocarcinoma, hyperplasia and leiomyomas. The frequent coexistence of adenomyosis and other hormone-dependent uterine lesions is strongly suggestive of the presence of a common hormonal factor in the pathogenesis.
